5.0 out of five stars Excellent all in one printer!, January 24, 2011
By memoiai (USA) See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) This review is from: Epson WorkForce 840 Color Ink Jet Wireless All in One with Fax (C11CA97201) (Electronics)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () Upon opening the package I was a bit taken aback at how big and heavy this printer is. In comparison to my (now relatively) small Canon Pixma ip6000d (which I love).

But this printer filled a big void that the Canon could not: all in one printing AND instant two sided printing.

Installation: The installation and set up is easy. Just follow the information, install the drivers, and software, and you are prepared to go. Do not forget, but, to readjust your settings in Control Panel > Printers and Faxes (right click for properties) to a permanent model (i.E. I generally have it set to two sided printing, minimal ink use, and print last page first) so that I get everything the way I want to, now. If you do not do that, then you will be stuck having to switch it manually every time you print it out of Word; which gets annoying real fast.

Design: This is a sleek looking machine that looks professional. The touch screen is really a smart screen. Meaning: when I am trying to decide alternatives manually on the printer it only lets me decide those that are really available depending on all the last steps I have taken to get to the current screen. But, I’ll not be using the touch screen many, if ever, as I can do everything right from my computer with the software provided, which is much easier and more convenient (both of the other printers I have had I have also evaded the more primitive screens).

Printing Speed: This is a fast printer (it’s clearly not as fast as the monstrous and costly ($25,000) laser printer at my former place of work), but it is surely the fastest inkjet I have encountered (a assert they boldly state). I print two sided pages all of the time, 1000′s of them, and I can not tell you what and unbelievable break it’s to be able to have a double sided page come right out, instead of waiting for the odd pages to print, then sticking back the pages in the right order into the cassette in my Canon, and waiting for the pages to print on the other side. If but, you print high quality pictures, I can not say that this is that much faster than my Canon, maybe just a bit, but it’s surely better quality.

Scanner: I can not say that the scanner is anything special here, it is like anything else. The quality is top notch at the highest settings, but, as with any scanner, you may also brew a pot of coffee while you get that high quality image saved to a hard drive that can hopefully sustain it (especially if you have got lots of pictures to scan); I see no reason to scan at the highest quality setting for most every day page text; and in this scenario it is lightning fast. The biggest benefit of this printer versus a conventional lift lid scan printer is that, thanks to the feeder, you may be able to really go ahead and brew that coffee and do something else while the printer (without glitches so far) scans and the faxes or downloads to the computer or copies the paper/pictures/etc for you, without you having to sit there and manually input every single ..bad memories.

Fax: The fax is just like any printer with a fax option; you simply enter in your info and away you go. A test fax has been received and sent easily, but without any extra flair. Did you seriously expect the scanner and fax alternatives in an all in one printer to somehow be revolutionized in the span of the last five years (when I had my last all in one printer)? NOTE: A phone cable is included, BUT if you use DSL, be sure you have another filter, or get one from your ISP.

Paper (free sample comes included, yay!): This is not about really the paper you use, but rather, the really awesome cassette system in this printer! there is two cassettes! that is another than I had before and it made me feel giddy inside! Then, I realized, I only use one kind of paper. Oh well, at least for many of you this will be vital. I used to send many of mail and hated switching out the paper and envelopes, a printer like this would’ve solved that annoyance. Again, so far, no glitches or jams; but this is really the least you may want to expect as modern printers rarely glitch if they are any good.

Ink (B/W and color included right away): Epson claims instant dry inks. So what? My experience with printers is not vast, but the two other inkjet printers I have (Canon’s ink only costing $2 $5 for a cartridge the same size as Epson’s), print dry also as long as you use the right paper. And, too touch base on the whole cost of ink issue, Epson loses me here big time. I have been spoiled by my Canon, which has cost me over the last some number of years a great total of $50 in ink ($25 of which is still sitting on a counter, unused); and I print literally thousands upon thousands of pages every year. About the same capacity ink cartridge ($2 B/W and $4 5 Color in Canon) runs you a whopping $28 for B/W (the B/W Epson cartridge is twice as big but the color one is the same)!!! I clearly have not printed as many pages with this printer still, but I sure as heck hope that cartridge lasts for some number of years, though, depending on size, it does not really appear like it. Despite, I just wait and pray for OEM cartridges that will be much cheaper sometime at some point. If anybody reading this knows of any, comment.

Wireless: No more cords! Ah, I can not tell you how many times my cords from the printer knocked my speakers off of the desk! you must install the software on every computer that will be using the printer wirelessly. This is really not a annoyance and a much better choice to have in an office and multi computer household than a printer for each computer or having to walk over to a computer with a printer and kick your relative off of the computer because you have to print something really fast. The set up of the wireless network is really easy; just follow the on screen information, I had no annoyance.

MAC USERS: I use a PC (please do not rate me negatively because of it : ), but anything Mac exception related in the information has been covered well by Epson, and I read over those parts and there did not seem to be anything big or vital be aware of other than you having to follow a somewhat different set of information every now , then to set everything up.

Overall: I rate this product a 5, because, in spite of the cost of ink, it really is easy to use, annoyance free, and saves me many of trouble and time that I had experience with other printers before.

Who this printer is for: Office or home office users who need a helping hand from a machine to speed things along, automatize, and network certain processes so you may be able to concentrate on other things after giving your command. As well, those unconcerned with the possible big costs of ink; if you print many.

Who this printer isn’t for: If all you need is to print paper (no reason to scan or fax, or not often), and can handle the “rigors” of having to switch paper in and out when doing double sided printing, then do not waste your dime here. Get something cheaper in cost and cheaper in ink.

5.0 out of five stars Epson Workforce 840 Best Printer ever!!, January 25, 2011
By Rodolfo Farinas Jr. See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Epson WorkForce 840 Color Ink Jet Wireless All in One with Fax (C11CA97201) (Electronics) I own this printer, i bought it from the manufacturer’s site directly since it was not available at at the time i wanted it.

This printer is awesome in every imaginable way you may be able to think of. And it may help you save many of money of you really want the all in one capabilty. Read on and I will explain how an why.
First things 1st, the printer is way smaller than the HP Laserjet 2840 i own too, it is not heavy at all, and it seems great. The text printing on this Epson really seems a laser printer. The color is great to, i print photos on glossy photo paper and they look amazing. The scanner is fast and good too. It lets you to scan and print both sides of docs now, no manual interference needed.
I looked for a printer that could give me great photo printouts also as it may be used as a work printer since i do print lots of papers also. I also wanted to purchase a Fujitsu Scansnap 1500 for fast double sided multisize document scanning potential, Well this epson gives me all that and more, and for less than half what the scansnap costs. I use adobe acrobat pro to scan docs to PDF directly from the epson scanner(could not do this with the scansnap) and all that’s done wirelessly, i may also fax any document right from my computer just like i print them.
Bottom line, for $200 you are to get a fast high quality printer scanner fax and both sides copy machine also as the card readers and many more, the ink looks to last, and this printer comes with the highest capacity cartridges, which seem to yield many. So now i solved my scanning, pc faxing and photo printing needs all in one small good a nice machine. And i saved whatever a photo printer costs, plus the $430 for the scansnap s1500, and i get laser quality text also as (N) wireless conectivity from my printer. What else could i ask for?

Note: My comparison with the scansnap s1500 aren’t depending on web reviews, i really bought a scansnap which i afterward returned since i get the same if not better results with this printer.
Also, I have owned canon photo printers and i still have a big HP color laserjet 2840. So my comparisons and references are depending on real handling of all equipment mentioned.
My recommendation, purchase this one and you will be happy.

5.0 out of five stars Close to perfect, January 27, 2011
By I. Peters (Dallas, TX USA) See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME) This review is from: Epson WorkForce 840 Color Ink Jet Wireless All in One with Fax (C11CA97201) (Electronics)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () I decided to get the Epson Workforce 840 for home use though it’s marketed as a business printer. The reasons were that my 13 year old fax machine was well on its way out and that my regular Canon photo printer (a Canon PIXMA iP4700) was at times driving me crazy with the time it took to warm up after I firstly turned it on. And though I’m greatly pleased with my dedicated Canon CanoScan 9000F Color Image Scanner, there were many times I wished it had an auto document feeder something the Workforce 840 gives (30 sheet capacity for letter/A4 formats, ten sheets for legal size sheets).

So here is my evaluation of the Workforce 840:

The complete device feels well built, though I’m not a fan of the 4 part slide out receiving tray (where the prints are ejected to) it just feels a bit wobbly but that may well be subjective as I haven’t had any trouble with it as of still.

Printer setup was easy though it took a bit longer than with regular printers, primarily due to wireless setup and the software installation. I set it up on a Vista 64 bit desktop, a Vista 32 bit notebook, and a Win seven Starter Netbook. All setups finished without any problems.

The functionality of the Workforce 840 is top notch:
May be operated wirelessly, through a wired Ethernet or a USB connection
Scanning from PC both through the Epson Scan software (one can identify which folder to make the default scan to location) also as through other TWAIN enabled applications
Scanning to PC (images are by default stored in the major drive’s Pictures folder but the place may be changed through the Epson Event Manager which sits in the PC’s System Tray)
Scan to PDF (default scan to place again is the major drive’s Pictures folder; change through Epson Event Manager)
Scan straight to email
Choice to scan/copy/fax letter, A4 and legal sized sheets, two sided, with the auto document feeder (Note that legal sheets can only be scanned/copied one sided!)
Two paper cassettes with a 250 sheet capacity each, and the Workforce 840 can handle paper sizes up to 8.5″ x 44″
There’s a function on the touch screen panel to print out different ruled papers pretty cool!
Add to that the possibility to use different memory cards (some of those require adapters) through a convenient slot at the front of the printer to directly print pictures from or scan to those cards also as PictBridge capability, and it really does not get much better than this.

I especially love the big and well lit, tilt able touch screen panel it’s organized and not confusing, enabling the user to get going quickly without having to consult the manual too much (or at all, based on how familiar a user is with such menus in general).

No USB cable is supplied with the Workforce 840 but Epson recommends using one for the initial setup of the wireless connection. But that is only because one must enter the wireless network’s SSID and password to establish the connection a bit tedious with the printer’s touch screen but doable. I didn’t use a cable and didn’t run into any trouble throughout the procedure.

Printing is very fast. The quality of the prints looks ok to me when printing papers, the quality of photo prints is certainly not as good as with my photo printer but that’s to be projected. The same goes for scans generated with the Epson. While they are fast, the scans I get from my Canoscan 9000 are better but dedicated printers/scanners address different needs than all in ones which must find a balance between different functions, speed and quality.

As it stands I’m more than happy with the Epson Workforce 840 it does a great job all around and is very easy to use something I didn’t expect from such a device. I recommend it without any reservation.

5.0 out of five stars So worth the wait!, February 28, 2011
By Kimberly J Oberhauser See all my reviews This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All In One Printer (4894B002) (Electronics) We owned a Canon IP6000 some years ago and decided to purchase an Epson Artisan because of it is multi tasking potential. That was a total mistake! I have had four printers in the last two years, under warranty, that Epson had to send me because the features kept going out on it!

I bought this printer at Staples yesterday and I’m happy with it so far. The text quality is better than Epson’s and the photos are spectacular, just like the Canon that we used to own. The photos turn out just like you had them developed at the store. I waited for a month and a half for this printer to come out and I’m not disappointed that I waited. Well worth the investment and I’ll be sticking with Canon!

5.0 out of five stars Great Printer!, March 7, 2011
By Garbo See all my reviews This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All In One Printer (4894B002) (Electronics) I waited about a month and 1/2 for this printer to become available after its release earlier this year. I bought the printer at Staples for 199.00, but returned my ‘old’ one and received a 50.00 rebate, so my net cost was 149.00 for this product. I found the 3″ LCD easy to read and also user friendly, as it takes you step by step while installing the printer to your network for the 1st time. It took about 30 minutes from out of the box, to completely function properly. I was torn between buying a laser vs an ink jet, but determined my needs were better suited for an inkjet and I was pleasantly surprised on the quality of the pictures I produced via the printer. The colors amazed! I’ll upload a sample shortly. I found the wireless connection which lets me to print wirelessly without having to connect using a cable from the computer was awesome, as my wife typically works on her laptop, and this is great feature! The Canon MX882 operates with five ink cartridges; so when one particular color runs out, you just have to replace that one cartridge and not the complete array. I also noticed Canon installs easily to reach ‘shortcuts’ on your pc to easily manage your function for your printer. The scanner worked well, as I was quikly able to scan an old 4×6 photo and upload it to my pc for easy sharing. You may also scan to e mail as it’ll open up your e mail and attach a scan to a new message. In a nutshell, , user friendly and the quality of the prints were great.

5.0 out of five stars , nice. With one exemption, March 9, 2011
By S. Shepard (NYC) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All In One Printer (4894B002) (Electronics) I newly replaced my old Pixma ip4000 with this new MX882. Set up was straight forward and without a glitch. The machine is nice to look at and prints high quality photos and papers with great speed. The display makes it simple for those who are “technology challenged” to scan, copy, or fax without difficulty.

The wireless printing setup was fast and flawless.

My only reservations about this machine are:

1. The shiny black plastic body is a big dust collector and hard to keep clean.
2. You may be able to use EITHER the Ethernet connection OR the wireless connection, but not both. This is disappointing and requires you to toggle the printer between modes.

All in all I’m happy with this Canon multifunction machine. It’s far superior to all the troublesome HP multi functions that I have had in the past.

5.0 out of five stars Best printer I have ever owned, October 29, 2010
By Thomas Paul (Plainview, NY USA) See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) This review is from: HP Photosmart Premium Wireless e All in One (CN503A#B1H) (Electronics)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () There are many qualities that should be considered when ranking a printer. This printer is almost perfect in all of them. 1st is easy setup. Setting up this printer was a breeze. I put it on the table, plugged it in, turned it on and the printer took over from there. The screen told me what to do and when to do it. Installing the cartridges was simple. It hooked up to my Wi Fi system easily (no cables needed) and was prepared to go in some minutes. Wi Fi is great, letting you carry the printer around the house so it is generally near you and your laptop as you go from the kitchen to the family room. Quality of prints? The prints were as good as the prints professionally developed that are sitting in my photo albums. (I did use the HP glossy paper supplied with the printer.) And the scanner works quickly and with excellent quality.

The printer has many cool features that allow you to perform many functions without using a computer. Need a last minute greeting card? Bored and want a fast game of Sudoku? Planning a trip and need a map? (MapQuest, not google maps, though.) The printer has a small screen that allows you to pick a nice selection of applications and when HP releases their API to write apps I am sure there will be plenty more available.

There were a couple of odd little problems. When I moved the printer the 1st time, the apps haved trouble accessing many websites till I ran through the setup again. The touchscreen takes a little to get used to and I found myself starting apps when I tryed to scroll past them. But this was a minor issue and after a little to get used to I had no more problem.

What it comes down to is that this is the best printer I have ever owned. The print quality is amazing and really that’s what any printer comes down to . For a home printer, it could be hard to find anything better.

5.0 out of five stars Fast, fun, easy photo printing, November 2, 2010
By Corey Scott (Rocklin, California, United States) See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME) This review is from: HP Photosmart Premium Wireless e All in One (CN503A#B1H) (Electronics)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () Background:
I now own an older variant of this HP photo printer, a C3100 series. The biggest differences on this C310 model are the WiFi connection, seperate ink cartridges for Cyan/Magenta/Yellow (instead of a single multicolor cartridge), and the color touchscreen. I haven’t still bought a set of ink cartridges, so unfortunately this review won’t include any info about ink cartridge longevity, since the printer only comes with “sample” cartridges that only let for a couple pages of printing.

Setup:
Initial setup was a breeze. I’m using this printer entirely over WiFi, and the printer is in a different room than my computers. When you turn the printer on for the 1st time, the touchscreen display walks you through the initial setup, as well as the WiFi connection. It took me about two minutes from start to finish. The computer software took a while to install, but is nicely automated so you do not must be a networking expert to get connected to the printer.

On printer User Interface:
The touch screen works well, with a comfy total of touch sensitivity. I never accidentally hit a wrong command throughout my testing. The features of this printer may be used nearly totally without the use of a computer. As an example, you may be able to scan a photo, crop and edit it on screen, and save it to either a remote computer on the network or a memory card. Printing photos from a memory card is equally easy.

Print Quality:
Excellent. Photo color is reproduced precisely. Pixel resolution is good, no pixelation was obvious with the naked eye.

Print Speed:
I have only tried printing 4×6 photos as of this writing, so I can not say for sure how fast a full 8.5×11 photo could print. Each 4×6 photo printed in around 20 seconds.

Scanner/Copier quality:
I performed a photocopy using a photo which has been printed out on my older C3100 printer. The ensuing print was somewhat lossier than the original print, with minor color differences, but in general a pretty satisfactory copy. The scanner is high resolution (600dpi), and creates digital copies of analog pictures better than any of my other scanners.

What I do not like:
More of a complaint about the printer business as a whole, but I hate that printers these days only come with “sample cartridges”. They can not possibly be that much cheaper to make, and are a evident marketing scheme to make you fork over more money when you purchase the printer. I guess I can not fault HP for following business marketing trends, but it’s still irritating. As for as this printer exactly, I can not say I have many complaints, but the paper tray capacity could use an upgrade. The photo paper tray only holds about 20 sheets or and the standard paper tray holds about 75 sheets.

Ink Cartridge Longevity:
As I mentioned before, I have not bought the full set of cartridges still, so my review is restricted to my use of the “sample cartridges” the printer came with. After I purchase and test the full cartridges, I’ll update this review.

Overall:
I am happy with this printer, and after using it, I’m comfy saying that I could purchase it again.

2.0 out of five stars HP Support Needs to enhance sleep mode issue, November 28, 2010
By Soar See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) This review is from: HP Photosmart Premium Wireless e All in One (CN503A#B1H) (Electronics)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () UPDATE 12/11/2010:
Have been running a firmware update for over a week now.. while the printer locked up once, it may have been caused by a power fluctuation. In general the issue listed in the CON below looks to be resolved so far. While the printer is nice, HP still gets two stars for how this has been handled (they should have been reacting to the many posts in their support forums for their new product.. also disappointed that an issue like this made it through whatever testing they do).

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Pros:
The printer was comparatively easy to set up wireless. Worked for a mix of Windows seven x64 computers and Windows XP laptop (all wireless)
The speed of the printing is fast and the quality of common papers is nice
Photo printing looked nice on photo paper
The two trays that come with the printer, one for normal paper and one for photo paper are a great idea

Cons: (arrrghhh. Frustrating con, hence the three star deduction)
The printer could go to sleep and rarely never wake up. It could take unplugging and re plugging the printer power cord to reboot the printer (this takes many time, the printer takes about a minute or so to re power up). I researched the issue on the HP web site forums and found some users haved the same issue. There aren’t firmware updates to fix this issue, in fact, there is no evidence that HP recognizes this as an issue and is addressing it.

THE FIX AND ONLY HELP. On the forum, an HP employee (who takes pains to stress he’s being useful and not reacting as an authorized HP representative) is the only ray of light. He gives nice step by step details on how to fix the problem (effectively, change the IP from dynamic to static on the printer). While I’m comfy doing such a thing, I can see the most of users not being comfy doing this and effectively being left with a printer that locks up every day. HP really needs to get their stuff together and at least say something to the effect that they’re working on the issue.

Disappointed in HP support.

At this point, I could not recommend this printer to anybody except people with higher than average level of tech knowledge.
