5.0 out of five stars Ahhh, MFC 9970 is better than the MFC 9840CDW, February 10, 2011
By Skeeme08 See all my reviews () This review is from: Brother MFC 9970CDW Color Laser All in One with Wireless Networking and Duplex (Office Product) I just received my Brother MFC 9970CDW a little under a week ago. So far, the print quality is considerably better than what I experienced with the Brother MFC 9840. It is nearly night and day about color quality. I never liked the quality of the 9840, but the 9970 gives me with much greater color quality. They surely made an improvement in this area.

The 9970 touch screen is nice to have also. It is not a “Wow” factor for me, but it is something different, but nothing to be wanted.

The 9970 looks to be made with cheaper quality plastics, which looks to make the printer a bit more fragile, but we will see how it holds up.I’ve only had it for less than a week. But with that said, the 9970 also looks to be a bit more (and only a bit more) thin in comparison to the 9840.

My only problem far with the MFC 9970 is that the installation cd that came with the printer didn’t work properly on my Windows XP laptop. I had to go to Brother web site and download the last installation drivers and software package. This delayed my setup of the printer a bit, because I had to restart at least two times before I realized I should just attempt the Brother web site. Once I did, I did not have any other problems installing the printer drivers.

I can now use my printer for business presentations and not having to run to Staples or Kinkos because the 9840 color print jobs were too embarrassing to show any client. Happy I took another chance with Brother with the 9970 because I will get my money’s worth.

I have not really checked out the Control Center four that comes with this printer model, but hopefully they have made many enhancements here too.

I’d recommend this printer to a business looking for an all in one copy/print/scan/fax solution.

3.0 out of five stars Good but not great. Read Update, May 20, 2011
By D. Dell “Dell” (USA) See all my reviews () This review is from: Brother MFC 9970CDW Color Laser All in One with Wireless Networking and Duplex (Office Product) I have two other Brother printers. One is an all in one inkjet and the other is a black and white laser printer. I have been happy with both and never had any problems. They did a pretty great job, but I wanted something a little better and thought a color laser printer could be the way to go.

This Brother MFC 9970CDW has good and bad points. 1st, the black printed letters are crisp and sharp. But, the color photos are only somewhat above average in quality. Plus, there’s many slight banding (lines) on hard prints. The banding isn’t too bad and hardly obvious, but it shouldn’t do that. And I tried everything the manual said to correct the problem, but nothing helped. Nevertheless I can live with it.

The biggest complaint I have is the curling of the paper. Another reviewer is correct. The heavier weight the paper, the more serious the curling.

The speed for duplex printing is six pages in one minute and that’s with plain text on one side and a map on the other side. Do not get fooled by the claims of fast printing under everyday normal conditions. In contrast, the scanner is very fast.

The OCR software with plain text is correct. Hand written text is another story and problematic at best. But then, that’s to be projected.

Wireless setup was easy. The printer recognized the network then I just had to install the driver on my PC.

This printer can pull through heavy stock paper and the duplex printing is a concurrent saver. Plus, in general the printer does a pretty great job. But, if paper curl bothers you, then avoid this printer.

Update on the page curling.
I discovered a way to help unwarranted the serious curling caused by this printer. 1st take your blank paper out of the tray. Then place your printed curled paper FACE UP in the feed tray. Do not use more than about 50 pages at a time. And be sure the green sliding paper guide with two little hooks is in place on the end of the paper. This is needed to hold the paper in place so the printer can pick up the sheets. Then launch a word processor. Tap the spacebar to fool the printer into thinking there’s something to print. Set the number of pages to print, then tap print. After the paper runs through, the paper will curl in the other direction, but not as inflexible. Take the paper in both hands and gently roll the curled ends back to straighten it. The result will be a almost flat paper. Sounds like many of steps. But, attempt it and you will find it only takes a matter of seconds to correct that awful paper curl.

5.0 out of five stars Excellent part of equipment, February 6, 2011
By JVG See all my reviews () This review is from: Brother MFC 9970CDW Color Laser All in One with Wireless Networking and Duplex (Office Product) I rated this five star because I have never had a printer plug n play as easy. The wireless hookup was done through printers color screen found my network and has been connected in minutes.
Installed software and I printed in less than ten minutes. Print quality is excellent both black & color. A little slow on the 1st print but after that it was super fast. I missed the sale price because I put it in my cart on Friday & when I went back on Monday to complete the buy it was not on sale so I paid the $699.00. But I do not regret it’s well worth the price. I had my last Brother MFC 9600 for ten years without a single problem.

5.0 out of five stars Great Printer!, March 7, 2011
By Garbo See all my reviews This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All in One Inkjet Printer (4894B002) (Office Product) I waited about a month and 1/2 for this printer to become available after its release earlier this year. I bought the printer at Staples for 199.00, but returned my ‘old’ one and received a 50.00 rebate, so my net cost was 149.00 for this product. I found the 3″ LCD easy to read and also user friendly, as it takes you step by step while installing the printer to your network for the 1st time. It took about 30 minutes from out of the box, to completely function properly. I was torn between buying a laser vs an ink jet, but determined my needs were better suited for an inkjet and I was pleasantly surprised on the quality of the pictures I produced via the printer. The colors amazed! I’ll upload a sample shortly. I found the wireless connection which lets me to print wirelessly without having to connect using a cable from the computer was awesome, as my wife typically works on her laptop, and this is great feature! The Canon MX882 operates with five ink cartridges; so when one particular color runs out, you just have to replace that one cartridge and not the complete array. I also noticed Canon installs easily to reach ‘shortcuts’ on your pc to easily manage your function for your printer. The scanner worked well, as I was quikly able to scan an old 4×6 photo and upload it to my pc for easy sharing. You may also scan to e mail as it’ll open up your e mail and attach a scan to a new message. In a nutshell, , user friendly and the quality of the prints were great.

5.0 out of five stars , nice. With one exemption, March 9, 2011
By S. Shepard (NYC) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All in One Inkjet Printer (4894B002) (Office Product) I newly replaced my old Pixma ip4000 with this new MX882. Set up was straight forward and without a glitch. The machine is nice to look at and prints high quality photos and papers with great speed. The display makes it simple for those who are “technology challenged” to scan, copy, or fax without difficulty.

The wireless printing setup was fast and flawless.

My only reservations about this machine are:

1. The shiny black plastic body is a big dust collector and hard to keep clean.
2. You may be able to use EITHER the Ethernet connection OR the wireless connection, but not both. This is disappointing and requires you to toggle the printer between modes.

All in all I’m happy with this Canon multifunction machine. It’s far superior to all the troublesome HP multi functions that I have had in the past.

5.0 out of five stars So worth the wait!, February 28, 2011
By Kimberly J Oberhauser See all my reviews This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All in One Inkjet Printer (4894B002) (Office Product) We owned a Canon IP6000 some years ago and decided to purchase an Epson Artisan because of it is multi tasking potential. That was a total mistake! I have had four printers in the last two years, under warranty, that Epson had to send me because the features kept going out on it!

I bought this printer at Staples yesterday and I’m happy with it so far. The text quality is better than Epson’s and the photos are spectacular, just like the Canon that we used to own. The photos turn out just like you had them developed at the store. I waited for a month and a half for this printer to come out and I’m not disappointed that I waited. Well worth the investment and I’ll be sticking with Canon!

4.0 out of five stars nice printer for informal use, September 21, 2011
By Angela Evans (Toledo, Ohio) See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER) This review is from: Canon PIXMA MG5320 Wireless Inkjet Photo All in One Printer (5291B019) (Office Product)
Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () Out of the box, this is a sharp looking unit with its high gloss black finish and flush folding LCD screen and paper tray. It seems great in the home office and is intended to finish basic printing and scanning tasks. After using the printer for about a month, it looks like it can complete the tasks that could be projected by most home users with the added bonus of being wireless right out of the box.

This is what we like about the printer:

1.Easy set up: The set up is straightforward and easy with the included CD. The printer connected to our secured wireless network with no problems and the software has been installed quickly on two laptops, again, with no difficulties. The Easy Photo Print Android app also has been installed with no problem on an HTC EVO 3D and was free to download from the market. It took about thirty minutes to get the product out of the box and set up on a computer.

2. Print quality is good: We printed a couple of photos using the printer and most printed inside 15 seconds. The color is good for the most part. We found lighter colors (tan, cream, beige, light pink) to be somewhat off. Do not use this copier to make up for professional printers if you need photos printed as gifts that integrate these light colors. Printing black and white papers in draft mode doesn’t really sacrifice quality. We were impressed that papers printed in draft mode were comparatively crisp in look.

3. Great looking: As noted, this is a sleek black printer that fits into the design of the home office.

Some gripes:

1.Will need cleaned frequently: The gloss and color of this part of equipment means that finger prints and dust are easily seen.

2.Paper tray is a bit small: The paper tray should have been a little bigger in its capacity. Admittedly, the capacity (which is a little less than 100 pages) is most likely not atypical for a printer inside this price range and for this printer’s meant use and should be more than adequate for informal use and the home office.

3.Cartridges: One of the biggest gripes people have about printers usually relate to the cartridges. A total of four small color cartridges, and one big black, feed the printer. Canon sells the four smaller cartridges in packs and may be found for forty five to fifty dollars. The smaller cartridges bought alone are about thirteen dollars.

4.Printing speed: While print quality is good, the speed isn’t great. A photo takes about 15 seconds. A black and white page in draft quality can take eight seconds. Again, this is most likely not atypical for a printer inside this price range.

Overall, this printer gives you exactly what it promises. The product’s particular features are well laid out in the product description listed on Amazon. Succinctly, but, this is an easy to use and easy to install, wireless home printer/copier/scanner. This printer accomplishes basic tasks that could be obliged of it in a non professional home office/casual use environment. This printer looks to be a safe purchase that should offer dependable and hassle free home service.

This product is made in Thailand.

5.0 out of five stars Amazing printer works great with Mac OSX Lion & airprint, November 5, 2011
By Robert Klaproth (San Diego, CA United States) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Canon PIXMA MG5320 Wireless Inkjet Photo All in One Printer (5291B019) (Office Product) This is an awesome printer that has everything I am looking for in a printer at a great price point when you may be able to get it on sale (which it’s currently). This printer works perfectly right out of the box, I was able to swiftly join it to my wireless n network (only works with 2.4ghz by the way) and my Lion enabled Macbook Pro quickly discovered the printer and downloaded and installed the driver. The only thing you’ll need a USB cable for is firmware updates. Out of the box, the printer does have an older firmware, and if you want to be able to Airprint from your iPhone or iPad you have to update the firmware. Once you do the firmware, which is a fast and easy procedure, you may be able to easily print from your iPhone or iPad, as long as they’re on the same wireless network as the printer, they’ll auto discover it and you may be able to print entitlement to the printer! Look Ma! No Wires!! One thing be aware of about this printer, when you hook up the USB cable and do the firmware upgrade, for many reason after you unplug the cable, the Mac does not go back to using it wirelessly, I had to go into printers, remove it, , then add it back in. No biggie, it quickly found it on the network and re added it no driver installing or downloading obliged.

I am a DJ so I needed the CD Printing so I can make professional demos for potential clients, and it works perfectly. It comes with software that allows you to print CD’s. The software is pretty basic and does not have many of templates, but it gets the job done, and I was able to swiftly print out onto a printable CD R. Some things be aware of here. One reviewer complained about lining up the tray. The slot for the tray fits the tray perfect, so you do not have to worry about that. There is a little line in the slot, and a line on the tray. You do have to be sure they line perfectly or it’ll print the label a little high or a little low based on how you line it up. I think with practice you will most likely be a pro after a couple of tries, but I do not think the reviewer is just in saying that it is a big disadvantage to the cd printing, I was able to print a label that was only about 1/4″ too high on my 1st attempt.

Photo printing is flawless. The printer came with two five packs of 4×5 photo paper. I was able to easily print a photo from iPhoto that looked pretty good. I am not a professional photographer so I can not give you an correct review of the real picture quality, but it was remarkable enough that I feel I could use it to make gifts for family and friends throughout the holidays.

One disadvantage I have found is if you do not use the printer frequently, it does take a long time to print the 1st page. I think this is common for most ink jet printers, it has to go through many priming/cleaning/etc of the print head before it prints the 1st page out after a long period of inactivity. I am only speaking to photos, I think black and white text print outs are a little faster on 1st print then pictures are.

Another pro about this printer is that when you are not using it, it is totally sealed. The front of the printer closes, which keeps all the dust bunnies out! And the coolest thing of all is that the cover automatically opens whenever you print something. The printer is “eco friendly” which means that it has auto power off functionality. I have it set to 15 minutes and it shuts off when I am not using it. I do have to manually power it back on when I print, but I like the idea of saving electricity so it is no biggie.

Other cool stuff I have found, you may be able to print a copy of cd labels right from the printer without using a computer. You just take the CD you want to copy (i.E. A movie or an audio cd) and put it on the scanner and it’ll scan the CD cover and print it right on the printable CD R without having to use the computer!

Like most reviewers have said, the paper tray is pretty small so it does not hold many of paper, but that assists to keep the printer compact. It does not take up many of space, it fits perfectly over my Container Store Elfa file drawer. I like though how the paper tray is a REAL tray that slides out so you may be able to fill it back up with papers. Many of the other brands just have a place to “slide” the paper in, and not an real tray.

This printer is great, you will be happy you made the switch from all those other brands. I had an HP Photosmart before this, and it died after less then two years of using it (wouldn’t power on though the power supply was good). HP would not give me the time, they tried to sell me a cheap substitute printer as part of their “trade up” program, that cost more then this Canon one and had half the features.

4.0 out of five stars Upgrade firmware for AirPrint on iOS devices, October 5, 2011
By David Ditzler “ditzlerphoto.Com” (Chicago, IL) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Canon PIXMA MG5320 Wireless Inkjet Photo All in One Printer (5291B019) (Office Product) I bought this today because I heard it supported AirPrint. I tried the one in the local Staples but it could not find the printer via my iPad. I bought one and brought it home and it did not see it either. Once I upgraded the firmware and restarted nothing looked different on the screen or in the menus but it appeared just good on my iPad.

I loaded letter sized plane paper in the bottom drawer and 4×6 photo paper in the top slot on the back. When I printed a photo from my iPad it printed full bleed on the 4×6 photo paper. When I printed a webpage it pulled the paper from the cassette and printed it on plain paper. There nothed to change and it worked better than I thought and it printed fast. The printer was never plugged into a computer either, except for updating the firmware.

Only cons I have is that there’s no way, to my knowledge, a way to configure media, print settings or any details like that when using AirPrint. I could see why could would not want it on the iOS device or lots of alternatives on the menu of the printer but give us many geeky tools for the web admin section of the printer so we can get many better prints.

The photos I tried printed out a bit warm and maybe too much red in them. It was not bad with people in the photos just a little too warm for my taste.
