I’ve a had some all in one printers over the years. Every one was about the same size, big. When I got the chance to get this new “small in one” set up by Epson, I had to wonder if something so compact could really compare to the performance of a full size All in One.

Set up was a breeze if you follow the simple step by step directions. Go off course and attempt and do it without following them, you will find yourself uninstalling the drivers and starting over. The installation really is easy, as long as you follow the directions. You don’t need a USB cable to use this printer with your computer if you have a wireless network at home. The choice is there throughout set up to do it with a USB cable or wirelessly. I tested it out both ways so I could know how well it worked both wired and wirelessly. This printer is set up to work on four computers in our home. Three of the four computers were set up without using any USB cable.

After you installed the printer on your network (hooking it up for the 1st time and setting it up to print wirelessly) you’re given the choice to do an online search for a firmware update. There’s now one available, so you may want to go ahead and do this. It is simple, just click “yes” when it asks you and the computer will do the rest.

So after years of using big all in ones how did this one compare? Amazingly well. So much so I have taken my big all in one from my small home office and moved it elsewhere. I had no idea how much space this small in one could save me. It turned my cramped work desk into a big work area. It still prints everything I need it to, scans full size pages, copies papers and more. I much enjoy being able to work on writing a document in my living room, hit print and it comes out in the printer in my office. My kids are able to do homework on computers in their rooms, then print wirelessly to the printer. As long as the computer you’re trying to print from is in many way connected to your wireless network, you may be able to print wirelessly from the printer. If you only have a modem (no wireless router) you’ll need a simple USB printer cable to use this printer.

Printing is calm and was producing clear sharp pictures and papers. Scanning is simple and has adjustable settings. This printer feeds Exclusively through the back, no choice for top or front loading of paper. No paper jamming issues, but I could propose you make sure to slide the adjustable paper feeder guide bar to the correct place after you placed paper in the printer. While many printers are able to feed paper without the guide bar set, this printer certainly performs best when it’s. Without it you may get off center printing (I did when I tried printing without it).

The front panel on the printer with the command buttons is adjustable up and down. Also the bottom tray and the back paper tray have fold down alternatives. They are great for keeping everything safe when moving this unit around.

The printer is light weight. Perfect for someone who can not lift anything heavy or may have to move the printer around a pretty bit..

All in all, a great performing little unit that is well worth the small price tag. I have gladly replaced my giant (and far more expensive) printer with this little beauty. It does everything the bigger one did, and takes up 1/3 the space!

Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () This is my second all in one printer, and my 1st wireless printer. It’s a great unit, but it does have some drawbacks that either will bother you or will not annoy you. Note that my computer experience below is with a PC with Windows Vista, my mobile experience is with an Android tablet.

First off, it looks like a regular size printer to me. I guess my old printer must be pretty small also, because this Epson is pretty much the same size. I see from other reviews that it’s much smaller if you compare it to giant full size printers.

Setup is a breeze. Just follow the included instruction card and it really could not be easier. The complete unit is just one big part, no tray assembly obliged, and installation of the four ink cartridges is easy. The wifi connection may be set up either directly through wifi or with plugging a USB cable into your computer. Their recommendation is to go the USB path, but really, it is easy to do it just through the printer. It detects all the wireless networks around you, and you just decide which one you want through the optical screen on the printer and directly put in the password and that is it. If you use the USB cable, it uses just a regular printer style USB cable, if this is replacing an present wired printer you may want to already have a cable for it. After the wifi setup just install the software on your computer (all computers that will be using it) and you are good to go; the computer should then detect the printer and be able to start printing to it. There’s a firmware update available for the printer already, and it will automatically prompt you throughout the computer setup to check, download, and install. The printer can accommodate paper from 4×6 to 8.5×14.

Printing from your computer is easy. Again, once you have the software installed it should automatically detect the printer and start printing to it (or let you to choose it if you have not selected a default and still have your old printer). One thing I noticed that’s annoying is that you can not do two sided printing over wifi. I am not sure why, but it just does not work. It really gives you a message that two sided printing may not work over wifi if you attempt it. Annoying for me because I’d rather save paper. In general print quality is pretty good. The colors are a bit muted and on many tests that I have done they have also come out pretty clear or I have been able to pick out the dots in the printout pretty easily with my naked eye.

Printing from an SD card is pretty easy. Just put the SD card into the slot and it’s automatically detected (be sure not to push it in all the way; it only goes about halfway in). You may be able to then scroll through your photos, decide the paper type, change the number of copies, and crop the printouts right from the LCD screen. If you have a big SD card, you may be able to go to the settings screen on the printer and decide to choose photos by date. It will then manage them by date and you may be able to quickly scroll through the dates to find what you are looking for.

Copying is easy from the scanning screen. You may be able to copy in color or B&W. The settings on the LCD screen let you to change the contrast, printing percentage, paper type, paper quality, etc. I have noticed that when set to “actual size” the copies get scaled down somewhat.

Scanning is a mixed bag. There are some number of scanning alternatives, as well as Scan to Memory Card, Scan to PC saves as a JPEG, Scan to PC (PDF), Scan to PC (Email), and To PC (WSD) supposed to let you manage wireless printing. Scanning to a memory card is easy; just choose the format (jpeg or pdf), the scan size, etc. The printer will create a new folder on the SD card (EPSCAN) and save the file in there. Easy! Unfortunately, you can not scan over wifi from the printer. Really? Yes. You’re supposed to be able to, but it just does not work. It gives a “communication error” if you attempt any of the “Scan to PC” alternatives or tells you that no computer may be found if you attempt the WSD one. Note that this is right after printing wirelessly just good. But, not ALL is lost. There’s a workaround if you have a PC available (which you may want to if you are trying to scan to PC). Just open the Epson Scan software on your computer and tell it to scan and this really works just good. From the Epson Scan software you may be able to save the scan as a bitmap, jpeg, pdf, or tiff. If you have the USB cord plugged in then it will work just good from the printer. Note that if you scan to PC for email it will open up the Windows email setup wizard if you have not done that before. In my case I access all my email from my internet browser so I do not use Windows’ email function and this does not apply to me. I found that scans alternated between to get the correct colors and again giving me muted colors that did not catch the vibrancy of the original photo. Other than that the scan quality is great.

The printer also has another choice to let you to copy or restore photos. This is meant to let you to take a photo and have the printer “restore” the colors in it, remove dust from the image, etc. It looks to default to regular photo paper sizes (i.E., 8×10, 4×6), if you have something that’s a bit off from those it’ll force you to crop it. You may be able to put more than one photo on the screen if you want. If you do this from the printer you may be able to automatically print right from the LCD screen. If you do it from the Epson Scan software it will save the image to file 1st. The color restoration works well with the right photos. In my case it took a faded baby picture of me and made the colors vibrant again. I tried “restoring” a photo that intentionally had a yellowish filter on it for effect and it came out not looking good at all. Again, use it on the right photos and in my experience it works well.

As a bonus, you may also print from your phone or tablet with the Epson iPrint software (available for Android or iOS). This software easily detects your printer and gives you a clear readout on your ink levels. From the major page you may be able to print photos off your interior storage or SD card, access online storage, print from a web page, or scan. I couldn’t get the photo print to work. It kept force closing on me every time I selected a photo album. The online storage lets you to access your Evernote, Dropbox, or Boxthe accounts directly from inside the iPrint app and choose what to print from there. Printing from a web page opens up a browser inside the iPrint app and you may be able to just navigate to the webpage you want and tell it to print. It looks to scale down a bit; the same photo that I printed using Google Chrome’s Cloud Print choice printed out bigger. The scanning function connects to your scanner and lets you to scan pictures straight to your device. From there you may be able to save locally or to one of your online accounts, email right from the app, or reprint again. Saving to Dropbox automatically sync’d and I was able to instantly view the file on my computer. Sweet! Note that this printer is now not natively supported by the PrinterShare app on Android. It’ll detect it, but it says it does not have the drivers for it. You may be able to also choose to print by way of the Google Cloud from inside the PrinterShare app and this will detect and connect just good and print it through the Cloud Print capability in Google Chrome.

Overall this is a great printer that’s easy to set up and begin using. The only big drawbacks I found were that colors on printouts seemed a bit black and in many cases the DPI seemed low, it can not do two sided printing over wifi, it can not scan to PC directly from the printer over wifi, and it does not seem to be able to generally catch the right colors on the scans. If these do not sound like big deals to you then go ahead and purchase it, it really is a great printer with great wireless potential (minus those mentioned above). If they do sound like a big deal then you may want to check out a different model and see if it works better for you.

Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () I newly received an epson stylus nx430 color printer. It was super easy to install and get working, with hooking it up to my wireless network. (Just as an FYI, it doesn’t come with a USB cable, if you need it to be wired you do have to supply your cable.) I love having the availability to copy and scan in my school room (we homeschool) without the printer taking up many of space in the room. My one complaint is that I’m having problems with the paper feeder taking photo paper. It prints beautifully on eight 1/2 x eleven paper, but it looks to have trouble grabbing my photo paper and running it through the machine. I am not writing this printer off quite still I plan on trying many other brands of photo paper, but now, it isn’t catching 4×6 photo paper and running it through.

Overall, I am happy with this printer for regular everyday copying and printing at home.

I did not want something too costly with ridiculous ink cartridge prices. I did not want something that had extreme HD qualities. I came across this printer on Amazons lightening deal page going for $59.99. I noticed that the cartridges were a decent price and that it had everything but a fax (no big deal). It lacked any reviews but Epson has put out some number of good printers. I received the printer some days afterward and set about setting it up via wireless connection. Pretty easy without a USB cable. The instruction manual and CD information carry you right through the procedure. Easy, but time consuming. After installing the software, it goes about updating itself , then updates the printers firmware. Did not run into a single glitch. Took about fifteen minutes from installing the cartridges to setting it at its last resting place. I adjusted the settings to conserve ink and printed some number of things up already. Decent, inexpensive printer with effortless wireless setup. Really can not beat this thing. I can not speak for photo printing because I rarely do any. I’ll update the review in a couple months as to how the printer is fairing.

Update 1/1/12:
Just thought I’d add some updates. I have found the fast economy setting too tiring on my eyes. I bumped it to regular economy setting. Saves my eyes and still saves ink. Paper tray is a little finicky as far as squaring up the paper to be loaded properly. Used it to copy a chart for work. Copy part worked good. I haven’t had any glitches or big problems still. So far, great purchase.

Wireless set up and operation, eliminating the need for a cable totally, and lets operation from another room particularly useful if you have got many computers feeding to a single printer;

Very fast printing for an ink jet (about one b&w page every four seconds);

Color printing and copying also as black and white;

Good, but not exceptional, photo printing (if that is a priority, think about a printer that is exactly intended for photo printing);

A 150 page paper drawer, allowing you to do a just total of printing before reloading;

Easy LED screen controls that are intuitive and simple;

Separate cartridges for each color ink (and a separate black and white cartridge), so you do not have to replace the whole set after running out of one color (I found replacing the cartridges simple and fast, and they are reasonably priced);

Ability to print directly from a camera memory card, so you do not have to turn on your computer or hook up your camera and download the pictures before printing a photo;

Ability to email a photo image directly from your cellphone to the printer;

Photocopying capability, as well as adjusting the size of the image;

Scanning capability, with software that makes basic scanning simple;

Automatic double sided copying; and

Relatively small size.

Limitations:

No fax capability; and

One paper drawer means you will have to hand load paper of a different type or dimension if your job requires different kinds of copies.

(Epson also makes the NX430, which costs only a little less. For that sum, the NX530 offers the paper drawer, auto double sided copying, and faster printing, with a somewhat bigger footprint.)

I found wireless set up easy, and scanned and touching up photos inside an hour of unpacking it. The quality of the black and white text is excellent, while that of photos is satisfactory, particularly for prints smaller than 8×10. The LED touch screen controls are straightforward.

This printer is not intended for constant, high volume printing day after day. The ink cartridges and paper could require recurrent substitute, and I do not think it could last long with that kind of use. The NX530 is suggested for personal use or a home office that requires light to average printing. For heavier use, look into one of the Epson WorkForce models (or other manufacturers’ printers), or a laser printer, which offer more durability and flexibility.

Buyer review from the Vine™ Program () This is a well intended and thought out product; very easy to set up, easy to use functionality and it does many things well. It’s true it does not have a fax, but we got rid of our landline a long time ago. For the modern world, for majority of people, and surely for me the capability to scan , then email is just as good.

The 1st striking thing about the NX530 is how easy it’s to set up. Adding the printer to my wireless network couldn’t have been easier. The LCD display screen when you 1st turn it on and prime the ink has an choice set up wizard. I pressed OK and it found my named network now. I pressed OK. It asked for the network password. I entered it , then the printer was part of the network. It took less than two minutes.

After that I downloaded the software for my netbook and used the supplied CD disc for my notebook. I decide printer already part of the network and both computers were good to go. You’ll want the software for the EpsonScan software. If you have an iPhone you’ll also Epson iPrint app. The NX530 wasn’t listed but the NX430 was, most likely because the NX530 is a newer model. But no problems, the iPrint app works great. It found the printer and it has alternatives to print Photos, web page print, and operate the scanner.

I has been interested in the scanner and put it through some things. The scanner does have to be controlled with iPrint or the EpsonScan software. It didn’t find either computer from the printer itself, it’ll only find a printer connected via USB. But with the EsponScan from either of my computers it worked good and downloaded the scanned image exactly where I wanted it to. I used the ‘professional mode’. This let me scan many old color photos to an very high DPI. I decide 1200 DPI which resulted in a four by six inch photo coming out to around a 4.5 meg file. It has been reproduced precisely. It took around two minutes to scan and I had to tell it was a four by six photo. Using preview you may be able to see if you placed the photo in the correct spot on the scanner bed. Scanning a black and white page at 300 DPI took only some seconds. And if you’re scanning as a PDF you get an choice to have a new page become part of the same document which is useful.

One of the major things about purchasing a printer is you’re really purchasing an Ink supplier. The cost of Ink will dwarf the cost of the printer itself. It turns out Epson gives you many of flexibility. You have two alternatives, the 125 line and the 127 line. The 127 line costs more but gives you higher capacity. I’ll go this way when I need refills. Both the 125 and 127 have excellent reviews on Amazon. You have a black cartridge and three color cartridges. On my current printer I only use black. I use Photo services to print my Photos. I did borrow many photo print paper and was happy with the results on the NX530. But I have found in the past it’s cheaper to use store print services. But for those that want to print photos you not only get good quality, and fast drying ink, but you may be able to put your photo card directly into the printer. The printer came supplied with regular 125 cartridges not half starter cartridges, a nice touch from Epson. Another neat function is that from your computer once you install the software it’ll check for any firmware updates. There was one and I initialized it from the computer and it installed in some minutes.

The printer itself is a nice design. The control panel slides out for easy reading and use. The buttons are big. The top of the printer has a nice texture. The paper tray is easy to change and obviously marked for different sizes. Epson has made an very easy to use wireless printer. It takes just a couple of minutes to get the computer on your network. The functions are all easy to use via smartphone, computer, or directly from the printer with the exemption of scanning which you’ll have to control from a computer or smartphone. The print quality for papers and photos is good. You have the capability to do double sided printing. Scanning produces excellent results. The ink gets good reviews. I personally trust Epson and Canon the most when it comes to printers. Epson put many of many decades of printer know how into the NX530 and user friendliness and it shows. Greatly suggested.
