4.0 out of five stars Monochrome Blues, March 27, 2011
By Richard C. Morgan (Palo Alto, CA USA) See all my reviews This review is from: Brother Printer MFC7360N Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax and fitted Networking (Office Product) The field of monochrome all in one AIO laser printers lags behind the more ubiquitous inkjet AIO units. I needed an economical solution for scanning and printing papers. It didnt’ make sen$e to keep purchasing costly ink replacements from the inkjet printer. I settled on the Brother MFC 7360N. The unit is somewhat noisy when using ADF (auto doc feeder) and satisfactory when printing. Construction is plasticy but so are most printers these days.

Some other drawbacks:
Can not change the default directory where pictures are stored on your computer
Takes about 30 min to install the drivers & sw on one computer. Sooooo slowwwww
The little display window is hard to read at its highest contrast setting! Wow, strange.
M F (no weekend) buyer support

The printer is satisfactory and not too costly. The software for Mac is quite full featured but not robust. UI is a weak point. I learned to workaround its quirkiness. The printer is great if you just want an economical machine at a simple price. Once you get used to the software, it’ll let to be quite productive. Scan multi page docs to create single file PDF (had problems scanning six pages, inadequate RAM??) but no problem combining scanned pages afterward to gen PDF.

2.0 out of five stars Fast, good capacity, but an energy hog and noisy, August 26, 2011
By B. Stenman See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Brother Printer MFC7360N Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax and fitted Networking (Office Product) Small footprint, integrated Ethernet access, big paper storage space, inexpensive (compared to HP) toner, and a document feeder, all at a low price. In my experience with Brother printers and fax machines they’re very dependable and easy to setup and that’s why I chose to go with a Brother. With a rarely used copier the inkjet variants will clog and as the ink dries out in the print heads and they’re many slower and in the long run many costly with the cost of consumables.

Setup was fast and easy and the Nuance scanner software is great and an improvement over that provided with older models from Brother and the software from HP which is so bloated that it frequently fails to install properly.

Nice feature is the capability to register a PC by name when installing the software. Then when scanning a document you may be able to choose the destination computer from the Brother and push the scan to the wanted PC. Easy and slick implementation and it works!

Nuance software also gives for scanning to the customary TIFF or JPEG formats but by default will scan and output a PDF file which is a real timesaver for scanning a document to email to someone. I could pay for the free Nuance software for this feature alone.

Printing to the Brother MFC7360N wakes it out of sleep mode (actuall “deep sleep”) and outputs a page in seconds. It’s about four times as fast as my HP 4000TN printer to output the 1st page. The Brother does suck up many of power when it comes out of sleep mode and the alarm goes off on the UPS that’s on the same circuit. I suspect it most likely should be on own circuit or a 20amp circuit to avoid any problems with other devices.

Scanning is fast and with standard big pictures works as projected. With text pages though the borders have a shadow pattern on the page on both sides that’s generated inside the machine. For OCR or most pictures this isn’t going to be a problem but not great for making scans of text pages for electronic archival reasons. This problem only affects scans and doesn’t happen when making a copy of the same printed page so it can be a problem with the Nuance software.

It also is very noisy with a deafening hum and deafening fan sound when it’s 1st turned on or after a page is printed. It goes into standard , then sleep , then deep sleep mode and the fan doesn’t shut off till it reaches “deep sleep”. The MFC really needs to be in a separate room with a door you may be able to close. Turning the unit on and not printing or scanning it goes into standard mode and I timed how long it took for the fan to shut off. It takes a full eleven minutes before the machine goes into deep sleep mode and its deafening fan shuts off. Must be a defect in the design as the cooling fan cycles when the MFC7360N is 1st turned on and nothing was printed. This may be fixed with a firmware upgrade but seemingly Brother hasn’t bothered to produce one.

I paid $179.97 for this printer on August 24, 2011 and a week afterward it’s priced at $114.99 which, if you may be able to put it in a separate room, makes this a good value with the low cost of the Brother consumables.

The sound is deafening and atypical of laser printers. Most newly I bought a Canon 4570dn all in one and after it prints a page it shuts down now and it’s totally silent. The eleven minutes of fan sound from the most of Brother laserjet printers is a pretty recent defect as I have had other laserjet printers from Brother that didn’t exhibit this behavior and were very dependable.

5.0 out of five stars Brother MFC 7360N, June 14, 2011
By Carroll B “Carroll B” (Baltimore, MD) See all my reviews () This review is from: Brother Printer MFC7360N Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax and fitted Networking (Office Product) Only had this printer for about three weeks but I like it so far. Warm up is fast, about 15 seconds from cold start to the 1st printed copy. Have it installed as a network printer so I can print wirelessly from my notebook through my router. I like the fact that Brother has one of the less costly toner cartridges on the market. I could recommed this multi function printer to anybody in a home enviroment (where I use it) to a small office. We have some number of Brother printers alike to this one at work and use them usually for fax and many light copying.

5.0 out of five stars Ahhh, MFC 9970 is better than the MFC 9840CDW, February 10, 2011
By Skeeme08 See all my reviews () This review is from: Brother MFC 9970CDW Color Laser All in One with Wireless Networking and Duplex (Office Product) I just received my Brother MFC 9970CDW a little under a week ago. So far, the print quality is considerably better than what I experienced with the Brother MFC 9840. It is nearly night and day about color quality. I never liked the quality of the 9840, but the 9970 gives me with much greater color quality. They surely made an improvement in this area.

The 9970 touch screen is nice to have also. It is not a “Wow” factor for me, but it is something different, but nothing to be wanted.

The 9970 looks to be made with cheaper quality plastics, which looks to make the printer a bit more fragile, but we will see how it holds up.I’ve only had it for less than a week. But with that said, the 9970 also looks to be a bit more (and only a bit more) thin in comparison to the 9840.

My only problem far with the MFC 9970 is that the installation cd that came with the printer didn’t work properly on my Windows XP laptop. I had to go to Brother web site and download the last installation drivers and software package. This delayed my setup of the printer a bit, because I had to restart at least two times before I realized I should just attempt the Brother web site. Once I did, I did not have any other problems installing the printer drivers.

I can now use my printer for business presentations and not having to run to Staples or Kinkos because the 9840 color print jobs were too embarrassing to show any client. Happy I took another chance with Brother with the 9970 because I will get my money’s worth.

I have not really checked out the Control Center four that comes with this printer model, but hopefully they have made many enhancements here too.

I’d recommend this printer to a business looking for an all in one copy/print/scan/fax solution.

3.0 out of five stars Good but not great. Read Update, May 20, 2011
By D. Dell “Dell” (USA) See all my reviews () This review is from: Brother MFC 9970CDW Color Laser All in One with Wireless Networking and Duplex (Office Product) I have two other Brother printers. One is an all in one inkjet and the other is a black and white laser printer. I have been happy with both and never had any problems. They did a pretty great job, but I wanted something a little better and thought a color laser printer could be the way to go.

This Brother MFC 9970CDW has good and bad points. 1st, the black printed letters are crisp and sharp. But, the color photos are only somewhat above average in quality. Plus, there’s many slight banding (lines) on hard prints. The banding isn’t too bad and hardly obvious, but it shouldn’t do that. And I tried everything the manual said to correct the problem, but nothing helped. Nevertheless I can live with it.

The biggest complaint I have is the curling of the paper. Another reviewer is correct. The heavier weight the paper, the more serious the curling.

The speed for duplex printing is six pages in one minute and that’s with plain text on one side and a map on the other side. Do not get fooled by the claims of fast printing under everyday normal conditions. In contrast, the scanner is very fast.

The OCR software with plain text is correct. Hand written text is another story and problematic at best. But then, that’s to be projected.

Wireless setup was easy. The printer recognized the network then I just had to install the driver on my PC.

This printer can pull through heavy stock paper and the duplex printing is a concurrent saver. Plus, in general the printer does a pretty great job. But, if paper curl bothers you, then avoid this printer.

Update on the page curling.
I discovered a way to help unwarranted the serious curling caused by this printer. 1st take your blank paper out of the tray. Then place your printed curled paper FACE UP in the feed tray. Do not use more than about 50 pages at a time. And be sure the green sliding paper guide with two little hooks is in place on the end of the paper. This is needed to hold the paper in place so the printer can pick up the sheets. Then launch a word processor. Tap the spacebar to fool the printer into thinking there’s something to print. Set the number of pages to print, then tap print. After the paper runs through, the paper will curl in the other direction, but not as inflexible. Take the paper in both hands and gently roll the curled ends back to straighten it. The result will be a almost flat paper. Sounds like many of steps. But, attempt it and you will find it only takes a matter of seconds to correct that awful paper curl.

5.0 out of five stars Excellent part of equipment, February 6, 2011
By JVG See all my reviews () This review is from: Brother MFC 9970CDW Color Laser All in One with Wireless Networking and Duplex (Office Product) I rated this five star because I have never had a printer plug n play as easy. The wireless hookup was done through printers color screen found my network and has been connected in minutes.
Installed software and I printed in less than ten minutes. Print quality is excellent both black & color. A little slow on the 1st print but after that it was super fast. I missed the sale price because I put it in my cart on Friday & when I went back on Monday to complete the buy it was not on sale so I paid the $699.00. But I do not regret it’s well worth the price. I had my last Brother MFC 9600 for ten years without a single problem.

5.0 out of five stars Great Printer!, March 7, 2011
By Garbo See all my reviews This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All in One Inkjet Printer (4894B002) (Office Product) I waited about a month and 1/2 for this printer to become available after its release earlier this year. I bought the printer at Staples for 199.00, but returned my ‘old’ one and received a 50.00 rebate, so my net cost was 149.00 for this product. I found the 3″ LCD easy to read and also user friendly, as it takes you step by step while installing the printer to your network for the 1st time. It took about 30 minutes from out of the box, to completely function properly. I was torn between buying a laser vs an ink jet, but determined my needs were better suited for an inkjet and I was pleasantly surprised on the quality of the pictures I produced via the printer. The colors amazed! I’ll upload a sample shortly. I found the wireless connection which lets me to print wirelessly without having to connect using a cable from the computer was awesome, as my wife typically works on her laptop, and this is great feature! The Canon MX882 operates with five ink cartridges; so when one particular color runs out, you just have to replace that one cartridge and not the complete array. I also noticed Canon installs easily to reach ‘shortcuts’ on your pc to easily manage your function for your printer. The scanner worked well, as I was quikly able to scan an old 4×6 photo and upload it to my pc for easy sharing. You may also scan to e mail as it’ll open up your e mail and attach a scan to a new message. In a nutshell, , user friendly and the quality of the prints were great.

5.0 out of five stars , nice. With one exemption, March 9, 2011
By S. Shepard (NYC) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All in One Inkjet Printer (4894B002) (Office Product) I newly replaced my old Pixma ip4000 with this new MX882. Set up was straight forward and without a glitch. The machine is nice to look at and prints high quality photos and papers with great speed. The display makes it simple for those who are “technology challenged” to scan, copy, or fax without difficulty.

The wireless printing setup was fast and flawless.

My only reservations about this machine are:

1. The shiny black plastic body is a big dust collector and hard to keep clean.
2. You may be able to use EITHER the Ethernet connection OR the wireless connection, but not both. This is disappointing and requires you to toggle the printer between modes.

All in all I’m happy with this Canon multifunction machine. It’s far superior to all the troublesome HP multi functions that I have had in the past.

5.0 out of five stars So worth the wait!, February 28, 2011
By Kimberly J Oberhauser See all my reviews This review is from: Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All in One Inkjet Printer (4894B002) (Office Product) We owned a Canon IP6000 some years ago and decided to purchase an Epson Artisan because of it is multi tasking potential. That was a total mistake! I have had four printers in the last two years, under warranty, that Epson had to send me because the features kept going out on it!

I bought this printer at Staples yesterday and I’m happy with it so far. The text quality is better than Epson’s and the photos are spectacular, just like the Canon that we used to own. The photos turn out just like you had them developed at the store. I waited for a month and a half for this printer to come out and I’m not disappointed that I waited. Well worth the investment and I’ll be sticking with Canon!
